Sister, Sister

For National Siblings Day, we’re highlighting one of our sibling connections here at Bethany Children’s Health Center.  Bucy Thomas is a Family Nurse Practitioner who works mostly in our Pediatric Medical Rehabilitation Unit.  Her big sister, Pretty John, is a Registered Nurse who works with our Complex Care patients.

Although she’s the youngest of four siblings in the family, Bucy was the first to work at Bethany Children’s.  She started out working as a transporter at age 15. The girls’ mom also joined the hospital staff in 2001.  Pretty followed, saying, “I heard great things about Bethany Children’s so I decided to join, too.”

In a true bond of sisterhood, these nurses look out for each other. “Pretty is 10 years older than me. While growing up, she always looked out for me,” says Bucy. “We have so much fun every time we get together. We have been through a lot together.”

Pretty considers herself a second mom to Bucy and says, “I call her every day and make sure she is okay, and she’s always there for me when I need her.”

Both say family life outside of work is loud and fun, and they try to get together at least once a week.

Although as kids they never thought they’d be working at the same place, they express almost identical feelings of gratitude for working at Bethany Children’s. Pretty says, “I am blessed to serve our patients and fulfill my purpose every day and blessed to work with the best team.”

Bucy echoes those sentiments, saying, “I’m thankful to work at Bethany Children’s and to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. I’m blessed to work with the best co-workers.”

We know that we are blessed to have such dedicated siblings called to serve our patients.
