“In Pursuit of Excellence”

Nurse Manager works tire-lessly to find purpose and job satisfaction

The Bridgestone/Dayton Tire factory in Oklahoma City was demolished in 2015, but for Micah Puckett it’s just a distant memory. He spent twelve years making tires there, before the company moved production to Costa Rica and he found himself searching for a new career. With a family to support, nursing was a practical career choice that offered stability and growth. What he didn’t realize was that it would change his life.

“Working at the tire factory, I didn’t understand job satisfaction – the ability to support my family was enough for me,” he admits. “In nursing, I found a career that provides for my family and makes me feel like I have purpose.”

Micah started at Bethany Children’s Health Center (TCCRH) in 2008 as a Practical Nurse Tech (LPN Tech) and admits that before coming to TCCRH he had a preconceived notion that it would be a sad place. He had also found the nursing staff at other clinical sites didn’t seem happy with their work, so he wasn’t sure what to expect. “When I came to TCCRH, the staff was pleasant, the kids were happy, and the care was great. I wound up laughing and playing with the kids and the experience completely changed my mind,” he recalls. “This was the only place I wanted to work.”

Core Values AwardsMicah has embodied that positive attitude during his time at TCCRH. Now a Nurse Manager and recipient of the hospital’s Leadership Core Value Award for Excellence, his love for his work shows. “His leadership and friendly demeanor create an enjoyable working environment that trickles down to all of his staff,” said a staff member who nominated him for the award.

Micah loves working together with staff toward one common goal, and says, “We have so many outstanding team members who deserve recognition. I’m just honored to be counted among them.”
