June is the month in which we recognize our Patient Navigation Team! To close out the month, we asked Nurse Navigator, Amanda Wion, RN, about her role at Bethany Children’s.
Amanda started at Bethany Children’s as a nursing assistant 15 years ago after being inspired by role models in her family who served others through careers in healthcare, law enforcement and the legal system. That starting position gave her an appreciation for the hard work and dedication it takes to care for the Hospital’s unique patient population. During her time at Bethany Children’s, she has had eight different positions/titles at the Hospital.
“Something I appreciate about Bethany Children’s is the continuous desire to better our roles, processes, and operations for the individuals that we serve. Being a part of our mission for 15 years has allowed me to witness many miracles,” says Amanda.
In her current role as Nurse Navigator, Amanda manages several specialty providers who frequently round internally at Bethany Children’s. “When rounding with the doctors I feel like I get more meaningful time with the patients that we consult on, because it’s time spent learning even more about the patients as individuals,” she explains.

Recently Amanda helped coordinate bringing in vendors to perform EEGs (brain scans) internally for patients who have difficulty transporting to an outside diagnostic facility. She also helps with scheduling external surgeries, procedures and clinics, and says, “There are new surprises every single day. We are always kept on our toes!”
For Amanda, the most rewarding part of her job is working as a part of an incredible team and fitting within that team as an important piece of the puzzle.
